Words

a·skance
/əˈskans/
adverb
with an attitude or look of suspicion or disapproval.

This morning I was reading my book and I came upon a word I did not know "askance." (He looked at me askance in a way that reminded me...) I looked it up and found the meaning as listed above. I asked my husband if he knew this word and he did not. I told him the meaning. He said the writer could have just used the word suspiciously instead. I countered,  but maybe others use this word in their everyday language just as I have always used "henceforth."  As a child I had heard someone, probably in a movie,  say henceforth and I loved it. I decided to use in my everyday conversations (strange as it might have been) and henceforth continue to use it instead of "from now on." I texted my daughter Aria and asked if she was familiar with "askance". She replied "I use that word. Must be one of my versions of "henceforth." Then she added "Well I'll never forget when I was a kid reading the Bronte sisters and I told you that someone ejaculated and you said "What!!"  and I said "yeah that means they yelled something" and you said "Okay don't say that."
Getting back to my conversation about "henceforth" I continued,  I think when the mailman comes today I'll say "Halt! Who goes there!"

The Oliver's Model Banabae

A while ago Athena told me their family was asked to be part of an ad campaign for a local Australian sports/activewear clothing company called “Banabae.” The campaign was just launched. Here are some stills.

Celebrating Judy's Birthday at L'Antica

Today was a warm day in the 80’s. We had a nice lunch at L’Antica pizzeria in Belmont Shore celebrating the birthday of one of my Italian language friends Judy.  Always fun to get together with Marion and Isa.

Getting Ready for The Eclipse

The excitement is growing for the total eclipse of the sun tomorrow. The kids based in Dallas say “It’s absolutely crazy what an extra 500k people in this city feels like.” The family spent the morning at the arboretum learning about the eclipse. They listened to astronaut Alvin Drew and made a chart of the phases of the moon with cookies. I think Rocco loved this the best!

A Sunday Walk in The Park

After some very windy and wet days today is beautiful blue skies and sunshine. Recalling many days during the years of quarantine Mike and I took daily walks in our neighborhood, nearby parks and the beach. In those early unknown days we tried to go where there were few to no people. We wore masks outside. Today we again took a long walk at Heartwell park recalling the days we sat with our chairs under the pine trees just to try and have a normal life outside our home.

Feeling grateful that we have that time behind us and that we are well.
